Although he did not play (most of) these guys publically, I can imagine
GG's fine intellect disturbing our sense of correct interpretation for
some:
Mendelssohn
Faure
Schubert
Shostakovich (Oh, that would be a dream come true!!)
More Scarlatti and Haydn please......much more.
Cecile Chaminade (a wonderful female composer who I have lately swooned
over.....)
Dvorak (some piano pieces just cry out for his thoughts)
Debussy (sadly neglected)
How about him doing Schumann's 2'nd Piano Sonata? He would either play
it faster than humanly possible or slow that movement down to an Adagio
just to drive us mad!!!!
Can you imagine him doing his own version of "The Rite of Spring"????
That would be something.....
I can imagine him doing his own piano reductions of some Rossini with
great relish and pomp.
This is fun....

Subject: Re: [f_minor] Gould and Rachmaninoff
I have to say that a complete Art of the Fugue on the piano is at the
top of my list of things I wish GG had left us; I believe he would have
recorded it if he had lived longer. I also would love to have some
Handel on the piano. And generally more English music from the 16th-18th
centuries. Do other people have "I wish he recorded this" lists?
Best regards,
Jim
