Thank you, Maryellen. I add another vote for the transcendance of this
performance. I think the fourth is the most beautiful of the partitas and
Gould found its essence.
I had the good fortune to be a student at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto
in the late 50s and early 60s. Of course Gould was talked about constantly,
and in the late 50s was still performing publicly. I think I have spent a
good part of my adult life learning music that I first heard played by
Gould, including this partita.
