If Gould really penned this (I am simply too tired and too hot to look it up): "a form which expresses the limitations of form. 
Which takes as its point of departure the terror of formlessness." then he deserves all he gets. GG was no dupe, he read assiduously all the latest "dope" on performance etc (I'm thinking BAM) and I'm without doubt he followed the public career of his "rival" Lukas Foss with intense interest to say the least...

Gould was never working in a vacuum, he was intensely competitive with his contemporaries. He was constantly writing articles in direct opposition to Bernstein's. All this to say: Why be so taken aback? It's what GG would have wanted years and years ago anyway...

Dear all
 
I got this info from an external source, but I would like to share it with 
you anyway. Not my cuppa tea, but someone might be interested.
 
Choreographer Emanuel Gat has come up with the idea of setting one of GG’s 
radiodramas in motion via ballet, modern dance or whateve they call that these 
days. It is called The Goldlandbergs and you can read about it here:

I for one can’t decide if this is Gouldian contrapunctualism or a very 
massive bloomer, but that depends on your perspective so go ahead and give it a 
fair go, even if contemporary dance is not your thing. At least they tried to 
come up with something unusual, failure or not...
