That's a very good point! Sokolov plays the Brahms version. 

As a violinist who can play the whole 2nd partita, I feel somehow its
wrong to to just play the Chaconne as a standalone work. Its a great shame
the rest of the partita wasn't transcribed. It does make more musical sense
to hear the whole work and puts the chaconne in context. And with
performing tastes having changed so much in the last 30 years hearing the
chaconne played on a period instrument is quite a change from the glitzy
russian-US school performances of Heiftetz and say Perlman.
