Hi Maryellen,
The Gould scene on the beach is so great to watch, thanks Maryellen, and those who have seen "The Genius Within" doc will certainly remember it from there. I had never seen the Jock Carroll on the beach bits before, though, and it's nice to have that included. When the doc came out at the Film Fest in 2009 I wasn't able to go at that time but always loved the photo they used to promote the film, Jock's wonderful still of GG leaning against the old wall. I think it's my fav picture of GG, with his hair blowing in the wind, his arms folded, his legs crossed in those elegant wool pants (which maybe Jock encouraged him to buy, since Glenn's mum had asked Jock to make Glenn get some new clothes for the trip...and then he buys winter pants!!!). The Globe and Mail used the pic, too, and someone somewhere amongst all this promotional stuff coloured the orig B&W and cropped it and it looks so beautiful.
Jock was a terrific photographer and his book on Gould is very interesting and funny (I found it in the library earlier this year). I remember reading that GG originally didn't want to have anything to do with going in the water; Jock got some long rubber gloves (and boots maybe? I can't remember) but there is a photo of them on the hotel bed. It's a book worth having for any Gouldianite and I want to get my own copy if I can.
Speaking of books again, I also would love to see Howard Scott write more about his times with GG. (He did something brief in one publication, I think.) It might help to take away the bad taste left from that rather nasty Kazdin book.
Cheers, everyone! Elaine

What's the problem? F Minor can't deal with it? None of you had seen nor even known of the footage
shot on the beach and now not even a word when it's offered you?
Mary Jensen
